Executive Team

Gloria Danna Brooks
President & CEO

In March 2007, Gloria Brooks began her role as President and Chief Executive Officer at Arbor Hospice, a community-based nonprofit organization with branches in Ann Arbor, Woodhaven, Plymouth and Monroe. Arbor Hospice helps more than 1,500 patients and their families live with terminal illness each year. Arbor Hospice helps nearly 250 patients and their families live with terminal illness each day. With annual revenues of $17M, Arbor Hospice is the largest independent, non-profit, community-based hospice provider based in Washtenaw County and fourth largest in its seven-county service area.

Through Gloria’s present role, she oversees all hospice, grief support services and hospice residential operations. Her responsibilities include strategic planning, financial management, service delivery, business development and stakeholder relations. Her in-depth of experience, enthusiasm and dedication to the Arbor Hospice mission are critical to the agency as it moves forward since its inception of service in 1984 to the southeast Michigan community. Margaret Adrain
Vice President Marketing

Margaret Adrain joined Arbor Hospice as the Vice President of Marketing in August 2010. Her responsibilities include directing the sales, marketing and public relations functions.

Prior to her position at Arbor Hospice Margaret was the Vice President of Marketing at Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Michigan and had held sales and marketing leadership positions with Metlife and The Kendall Company

Margaret earned her bachelors degree from Michigan State University and her masters degree in business administration from Northeastern University, Boston, Mass.

Bruce Carty
Chief Financial Officer

Bruce Carty has been the Chief Financial Officer of Arbor Hospice since September 2007. Prior to his current position, he was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) of Southeast Michigan.

Prior to the VNA, he served as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Chelsea Community Hospital. Bruce was the Vice President of Finance at McPherson Hospital of the St. Joseph Mercy Health System. He earned both his bachelors and masters degrees in business administration from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Mich. He is a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association, a Certified Managed Care Professional and a Certified Facilitator for Process Improvement Teams.

Anathea Collar
Vice President Administrative/HR Director

Anathea Collar has been with Arbor Hospice since June 2002. Previously she has held management positions at several companies in southeastern Michigan.

Anathea earned her bachelors degree from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant and her masters degree in business administration with a specialization in human resources from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Mich.

Heidi Grix
Vice President Development Arbor Hospice
Executive Director The Arbor Hospice Foundation

Heidi Grix joined Arbor Hospice in June 2009 in a dual role as the Vice President of Development of Arbor Hospice and as the Executive Director of The Arbor Hospice Foundation. Prior to Arbor Hospice she was the Director of Development for five years at The American Red Cross. Heidi held various other leadership positions for a number of non-profit organizations in Washtenaw County.

Heidi earned a bachelors degree in English from Oakland University, Rochester, Mich. and a graduate certificate in teaching from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Mich.

Penny Murphy
Vice President Clinical Services

Penny Murphy has been the Vice President of Clinical Services of Arbor Hospice since July 2010. In her previous role for Arbor Hospice, Penny was the Director of The Residence from June 2009 to July 2010.

As the Vice President of Clinical Services Penny directs all activities of the certified hospice program including field services, in-patient unit services and grief support services. Penny also ensures all clinical services are provided consistent with the agency's strategic plan and she leads the agency's efforts for clinical practice, quality assurance and ethics.

Prior to her current role at Arbor Hospice, Penny joined Community Health Accrediting Program (CHAP) as a Site Visitor. She served as President and CEO at Michigan Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in Lansing, and at Avalon Hospice in Flint, Mich. and joined the Corridor Group as a clinical specialist. At Mercy Corporation in Troy, she fulfilled the role as director of hospice. Before Mercy Corporation, Penny tended patients as an RN in the intensive care, coronary and burn units at Hurley Hospital in Flint, Mich.

Penny attended the University of Michigan and earned a bachelors in nursing and a masters degree in community health.
