The Hospice and Palliative Care Association of Michigan (HPCAM), formerly known as Michigan Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, recognized three Arbor Hospice employees during its recent annual conference.
Janet Chiesa and Donna Freund, both of Ann Arbor, and Jack Nickert, of Oak Park, earned Dream Team Awards.
Each year, HPCAM recognizes individuals within the hospice industry who represent the “best of the best” in hospice care with Dream Team Awards. The awards celebrate excellence in individuals providing outstanding commitment and services to hospices and palliative care organizations in Michigan.
Chiesa received the Dream Team Award as a support team member. She has been with Arbor Hospice since October 2010, playing a vital role in the admissions department. Janet provides excellent customer service to all patients, their families and community members, and is responsible for scheduling, providing referrals to other social service agencies, processing insurance verifications and obtaining physician certificates. Chiesa is hardworking, has exceptional organizational skills and a warm personality.
Freund received the Dream Team Award in the social work/counseling category. Freund provided counseling to patients and families in their own homes as well as long-term care facilities with the utmost attention and compassion. She also collaborated with the Arbor Hospice care team to provide patients and their families with the highest quality care and support. Freund has served as a mentor to new Arbor Hospice social work employees as well as social work interns, and provided social work clinical supervision for social workers who have yet to obtain their LMSW certification. She began her career at Arbor Hospice in July 2001and retired at the beginning of April 2013.
Nickert received the Dream Team Award in the hospice aide category. Joining Arbor Hospice in February 2011, his duties involve caring for patients in their own homes as well as in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Nickert assists nurses and provides basic care for patients, including bathing and grooming, while providing social and emotional support. He takes the time to educate each patient’s family and/or caregiver how to properly and carefully care for their loved one. Nickert has also well respected by facility staff and has led an educational training for the aides at one facility.
