Arbor Hospice & Palliative Care Receives Grants From Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation
Posted: July 16, 2015
Arbor Hospice & Palliative Care recently received two grants from the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation (AAACF) that will help fund pediatric grief support services and an Arbor Palliative Care social worker.
A $10,000 grant was awarded from the AAACF Anna Botsford Bach Fund to fund a half-time social worker for the palliative care program. Social workers are key members of a palliative care team that can provide physical and emotional support to patients, facilitate communication between the clinical team and the patient, identify and address patients' needs, and help coordinate medical care.
The AAACF Youth Council also awarded Arbor Hospice & Palliative Care a $5,000 grant to fund customized pediatric grief support services designed to address the special needs of children. Interactions with trained counselors help children deal with unique ways in which they cope with the loss of a grandparent, parent, sibling or other family member.
"Arbor Hospice & Palliative Care is extremely grateful to the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation for its investment in our community," said Gloria D. Brooks, President and CEO of Arbor Hospice & Palliative Care. "The grants will further our organization's mission and allow us to continue providing the highest quality of care and support to our patients."
