ANN ARBOR, Mich. (July 14, 2017) – The Arbor Hospice Foundation has received a $10,000 grant from the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation to support Arbor Palliative Care, which helps individuals with life-limiting conditions manage symptoms, resulting in pain reduction and fewer emergency room visits.
The funds will be used to enhance social work support for patients receiving comfort care within their homes or living within The Residence of Arbor Hospice in Saline, Glacier Hills Senior Living Community in Ann Arbor and Henry Ford Village in Dearborn.
Arbor Palliative Care social workers help patients and caregivers with:
- facilitating communication and services with Arbor clinical staff,
- processing and minimizing suffering, including emotional and psychosocial distress,
- accessing community support, such as private duty services, meal preparation and transportation,
- help coordinating appointments and issues with medical specialists and health insurance, and
- setting goals and advance care plans.
“We are extremely grateful to the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation for helping Arbor extend the vital support our social workers deliver daily to our palliative care patients and families,” said Judy Vindici, director of philanthropy for the Arbor Hospice Foundation. “In addition, we are grateful for the AAACF’s validation of Arbor’s service and commitment to this community.”
