| We
are Committed to Caring to for Kids
When it comes
to serious illness or grief, children have unique needs. Our Pathfinders
program ensures that children are cared for and supported every step of
the way. Pediatric
Hospice Care
It takes a special set of skills and resources to care for a seriously
ill child - thats why many hospices do not offer specialized care
to children. We have a steadfast commitment to the kids in our community
and believe that no child should suffer alone through the pain and emotional
turmoil of terminal illness. Through our renowned program, we focus on
the quality of life of our young patients and support and strengthen their
families to help ease their burden. Pathfinders
Grief Support for Children, Teens and their Parents/Caregivers.
Through our Pathfinders program, we help children and their parents/
caregivers cope with the loss of a loved one. Families meet in age-appropriate
groups (elementary, middle, high school and caregivers). This eight-week
course is designed for the entire family, allowing each member the opportunity
to work through and process individual grief concerns. Due to the nature
of the Pathfinders program, advanced registration is required. A family
assessment must also be completed and an appointment can be set at the
time of registration. While there are no costs associated with this program,
donations are very much appreciated. To register or for more information
about this group, please email Grief
Support. Working
with Children and Teens
Our Master's level therapists, trained in both anticipatory grief and
bereavement, use art-making, talking and play as comfortable outlets for
children and teens to express their feelings surrounding their loved one's
illness and death. Our therapists also work with the parents and / or
caregivers to gain an understanding of the family's beliefs, questions,
and concerns about changes in the family and how to address them. The
therapist will explain how children might respond to these changes based
on the children's age and situation and offer suggestions and guidelines
to help kids through these difficult situations.
