Volunteering

Volunteering at Arbor Hospice is a deeply rewarding and unique opportunity.  Arbor Hospice volunteers are an exceptional group of caring and compassionate people who offer our patients and their caregivers support as they face life-limiting illnesses.

Our volunteers are an invaluable part of the Arbor Hospice team. For patients living at home or in nursing care facilities, volunteers play a key role in supporting caregiver and patient needs.  They provide companionship to patients and/or allow caregivers a brief respite.

The Residence of Arbor Hospice, an in-patient hospice facility, provides patients with a tranquil home-like setting and offers volunteers a wide range of opportunities to help.

Volunteers also provide Arbor Hospice, a non-profit agency, administrative support by helping with special events, fundraising, mailings, filing and general office needs.

All of our volunteers receive extensive training in providing comfort and support to families facing end-of-life issues. Topics covered during volunteer training include hospice and palliative care, ways to improve communication, active listening, identifying and respecting cultural differences, spirituality and grief and the healing process.
