Rice became interested in the nonprofit hospice agency through his longtime friend and Arbor Hospice founder, Mary Lindquist. His donations to the Ann Arbor-based hospice over the years reinforced his passion to help provide dignity, respect and compassionate care at the end-of-life. Rice and his sister received hospice and palliative care services from Arbor Hospice. He served as his sibling’s caregiver until her death in February 2015. Rice passed away in August 2015.
“Paul’s passion was helping indigent people. Following his wishes, and because of his personal experience with Arbor Hospice, a fund has been established in his name at The Residence of Arbor Hospice,” said Shari Roberts-Osojnak, trustee to the Paul J. Rice estate. “Supporting the Paul J. Rice Charity Bed Fund brings Paul’s support of hospice and his legacy full-circle.”
To date, this is the largest estate gift received by Arbor Hospice.
“Caring for our charity patients is part of Arbor’s mission. We never turn away patients because of their financial situation,” said Judy Vindici, Arbor Hospice Foundation’s director of philanthropy. “This generous gift will ensure we can serve all our patients and their families.”
